about

In the last census, for the first time, more people said they don't believe in any God. My song asks therefore, where can we find the 'sacred' in the modern world? It's my third single this year released as a result of a new collab with producer Tom Campbell (Michael Kiwanuka, SAULT, Boci).

This searching for something 'other', the knowing that there must be more to it all than meets the modern-day eye is at the heart of why I put pen to paper but 'Nothing Sacred' is the first time I've spoken so explicitly about it. When you talk to people, you soon find that most are searching for something though they're not sure what or how to find it.

lyrics

There was a time when I bowed my head
There was a time when I knew how to be led by you
To a truth much greater than what’s on the news

But Lord, is nothing scared anymore?
Oh Lord, is nothing sacred anymore?

There was a time when I sang your song
There was a time when I knew that it was wrong to think
Anything that I created was by me

But Lord, is nothing scared anymore?
Oh Lord, is nothing sacred anymore?

I had a dream that you came to see
To spend a day walking down these dark, dark streets but then
You left again confused and tired without a friend

Saying Lord, is nothing sacred anymore?
Oh Lord, is nothing scared anymore?

Described as a cross between Rufus Wainwright and Thom Yorke, his songs combine sparse arrangements with soaring melodies, shot through with lyrics that have an existential thread and often a dark undertone, dealing with themes of identity and the modern-day loss of spirituality. ... more
